The authority of Scripture

In vain were the authority of Scripture fortified by argument, or supported by the consent of the Church, or confirmed by any other helps, if unaccompanied by an assurance higher and stronger than human judgment can give.

John Calvin
Institutes of the Christian Religion
Book I Chap VIII Sect 1

  1. Thanks for sharing that. The question of the authority of Scripture has been coming up a lot lately in many of my conversations, as well as in my seminary classes. And the more and more I read Scripture itself, the more it proves itself inspired, inerrant, and authoratative. And I wouldn't want anything less from the God in whom I place all my faith.
